Creating Your Own Economy

Jim Donovan

With all the insanity presently taking place in the Middle East, once again we’re hearing predictions about rising oil and gas prices.

One “expert” from Wall St. was on a network news show talking about how this could stop the economic recovery we’ve been seeing and cause us to slide back into the recession. Of course, some would argue we never left it in the first place.

Obviously someone, somewhere is benefiting from predicting this “doom and gloom” as a likely reality. Something very important to understand, however, is that the only “reality” occurring is the one you’re creating for yourself.

Yes, you heard me right. Reality is not some fixed thing and certainly not something created by the evening news. The reality you experience in your life is the outcome of your thoughts, words, and emotions.

The “reality” you experience has little to do with outside circumstances and everything to do with you. This explains why, no matter what is happening in society, there are always people who seem immune to it. These are the people who thrive regardless of economic conditions.

What is important is to realize that your prosperity, like everything else in your world, comes from your Creator, from God. When you integrate this idea into your consciousness you become immune to outside conditions and you begin to create your own circumstances. You essentially create your own economy.

Remember: “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33) and “The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21)

Here are some steps you can take to immediately start taking control over your own life:

“Be still and know”
Each day, invest some time to go within and connect with your own Guidance. Sit quietly, eyes closed, breathing regularly and quietly. Listen for the “still small voice” that is within all of us. It has been said that prayer is our talking to God and meditation is our listening.

Affirm your faith
Use affirmations like this to help keep your mind focused: “I have faith in the substance of God, working in and through me, to increase and bring abundance into my world” ( from “Prosperity,” by Charles Fillmore, Unity Books)

Learn to trust
Pay attention to what shows up in your life. Look for and see the opportunities that are always available to you. Remember you attract whatever you focus on so focus on the abundance in your life.

Take action
Act on the guidance you receive. Do something. There is always some small, simple action you can take. Trust and step out boldly.
